The minimum payable wage in Hungary is 65,500 Ft (€ 258) per month. In fact you have to do a lot of math to make it last until the end of the month.

The minimum payable wage to someone with a high school education or higher: 86,000 Ft (€ 340) per month.

In East Hungary (the poorest part of the country), for an average of 40 working hours per week, blue-collar workers earn an average of EUR 370, while white-collar workers make an average of EUR 700 per month (both are gross salaries).

In the same region, electricity costs EUR 4-5/kWh/month, industrial water costs EUR 1/m3, drinking water costs EUR 0.7/m3, sewage costs EUR 2- 3/m3, gas costs EUR 5-6/MJ/h. If you do green-field investment, you will need to cover the one-time utility development fee as well, based on the required capacity.

Reported average salary after taxes in Hungary per worker per month:

85,000 Ft / 335,000 EUR monthly

Any further questions about the art of surviving and black economy? (sorry for being sarcastic here)

Skilled and educated people, however, make a lot more than these figures, so don’t let these gloomy statistics mislead you! A skilled employee with a university degree takes home a salary between 200,000 and 800,000 Ft (790 - 3,155 euro). This is still far from the sky, but not as bad as some of the statistics you read make you imagine.
