Drivers under the influence of alcohol can have license seized on the spot! As of January 20th, 2008, drivers in Hungary who have consumed even the tiniest amount of alcohol can have their driver’s license seized on the spot.

The new regulations states that should a breath analyzer test indicate the presence of alcohol, no matter how small, the attending police officer can seize the driver’s license on the spot.

Hungary has had a ‘zero-tolerance’ law in regards to drinking and driving for sometime and the latest modifications to the law and introduction of a stricter point system was accepted during the last parliamentary session. The law was prompted by rising road casualties caused by drunk drivers.
