Take a Look at the Hand of István in the Basilica
Visit Saint Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István Bazilika) and take a look at his preserved right hand.
The Basilica is the biggest church in Budapest, named after István, the first king of Hungary. Like so much of Budapest, the Basilica is a mix of styles with classical and neo-renaissance features. It was started in 1851 and not completed until 1905. The Church is decorated with many fine works of art, paintings, sculptures (most by Hungarian artists).
Inside you can see the mummified hand of István or St. Stephen (weird, but unique!) - it lies in a richly decorated case.
King István introduced Christianity to the Hungarians and because of this is held in high respect by the Hungarian people to this day.
How to get there:
The Basilica is walking distance from Deák tér (a joint stop of the Blue, the Red and the Yellow Metro lines), in the center of the city.
